Wonderful Weekend

Yeah, I know a day later than it should be, but part of the wonderful weekend was a trip to the Farmers Market, so yesterday was spent with putting stuff up! I swear I don’t know why people need to exercise, because between just the work around the house, and the garden, and especially the kitchen, that I do I get quite the workout already. Yesterday was forearms. You shuck a whole bin of corn, and then clean it, and cut/snap them all in half for freezing, and yep, I’m feelin the musckles in my forearms today! Taking two trash bags of corn shucks out to the dumpster with our other kitchen trash, and the recycles, and then sweeping, and cleaning the floor, and add to that the two loads of laundry, and dishes, and other cleaning of the day, and it was all like a whirlwind where I hardly sat down! I don’t need any exercise after all of that. 😛

Sunday night we were up late doing another half bushel of mild roasted peppers for the freezer. We now have 22 baggies of mild roasted peppers, and 24 baggies of a mix of mild and hot roasted peppers in our freezer! We’re gonna have a boodle of chili and salsa fixins! If anyone else can think of anything to do with the hot/mild mix I’d appreciate a few recipes outside of fish tacos, chili, and salsas. I was thinking of maybe making some sweet and spicy relish early next year when the first of the cucumbers come in. Maybe a spicy jelly… but not sure what fruit would make a good base. White grape? Spicy raspberry? Umm, gotta think that one through carefully. Fortunately the hot peppers aren’t a melt your face off hot! Putting a lot of work into a Habanero jelly for no one to ever want to taste it is not my goal! LOL

On the knitting and crocheting front… no matter what else happens today I ~will~ get that purple and green blanket finished!!! I am on the last six rows! I’ve been on the last six rows for two days!!! Blah! Tomorrow and the next night it’s going down into the low 40’s and then the 30’s!!!! My timing is Perfect, I guess! 😛 Besides that I’ve been working on hats hats hats. Some of it is a surprise though so I’m not sayin any more.

And not much else happening here.  Just school stuff, and funny kiddo’s (to which they say, mooooom, don’t write about thaaaaaaaat! They read what I type over my shoulder now. Teenagers. :-P)! We’ve been playing Diablo3 again. They’ve started seasonal characters, so we’ve got Season One more than covered. Great gear upgrades, so I’m going to have to work on unstuffing my un-seasonal bank, because when the season is over, everything flips to your regular character page and people are just not going to have any space for all their stuff. I look at dh and tell him, “it’s time to make the haaaard decisions” and he’s all like, “it’s a game! and a game isn’t supposed to be this haaard!!!!” Whine whine whiiiiine! LOL

And we’ve been popping into World of Warcraft and some of the Steam games also. Lots going on there, but nothing earth shattering. The guild I’m in is having their nine year anniversary in a couple of days. I’ve been with them for seven thanks to knitterly friends at Ravelry.  It’s cool how that works out! So I’m going to pop on just to see how many of them pop back in out of the blue. The game is between expansions right now, so it’s kinda dead, dead, dead, so it’ll be good to see old faces, and do a little shenanigans, and steamrolling goofy stuff with them for a night.

And that is all because with any luck I can have this blanket finished by dinner!!!

A Little of This, A Little of That

It’s one of those weeks that it’s like, man that flew by fast. But then it seems like it went by soooo slow! Not sure why. I’ve been busy. Friends came up with several ideas of things for me to make. Some specifically for them, some they think would be awesome sellers on the shop! I am inclined to try them all! My desk is ridiculously FULL of yarn because of this. LOL I watched a video the other day on minimal-izing, and it said something like, in the 1950 when you walked into a home the average visual item count was around 500-600 items, and in 2013 when you walk into a home the visual item count is at like 2400 items. When did our lives become so stuffed with stuff!!!! So looking at my desk in the last week, yep, I’ve got some ~stuff~ issues. 😛

One big project that I WILL finish TODAY this green, white, and purple blanket that I started waaaaayyy back in FL. That’s folded in half in the picture.  It will have a total of nine of the purple stripes, and nine of the green stripes, and when I’m done and will probably be about four feet wide by six and a half feet long! I’ve decided to keep it.  It has a total of about three to four pounds of yarn in it. 😛

Today I am working on doing the finishing on a whooooole lot of projects. I have three sets of mitts that I need to sew hearts on, and then another four sets to seam up and weave in the ends. I have two hats, and one neck warmer that need the ends done up on. Two CO hats that need the CO emblem sewn on. And I have two baby toys to stuff. Sunday I will be working my heart out, seaming and weaving in the ends to about 35 preemie hats, and 30 regular baby hats, for different hospitals. I’m trying to get everything done and wrapped up, because in two short weeks Spinzilla starts, and I neeeeed to be ready to just drop everything and spin, spin, spin!!! 😀

In other news… we had a torrential downpour last week, and that caused some serious leaking into two rooms in our basement. Which in turn caused dh to be madly cleaning out a corner of his office. Which yielded my Paint Shop Pro disks!!!! Yaayyy!!! He will be installing it on this computer this weekend, and I am going to go into super edit mode, and get a boodle of pictures posted, and another boodle of goodies added to the shop! I turned Promoted Listings on in the shop, so hopefully I’ll get a bit more traffic as people start to buy things to keep them warm for winter!!!!

And in Cassie news… she is now only two pounds shy of the one hundred pound mark!!!! I am sooo excited! At the worst she was down to sixty-five pounds, and I was looking through pictures from April 2013 the other day, and just started bawling!!! So we’re going to be planning an ice skating party soon to celebrate!!! When she hits the 107 pound mark that’s the weight she was back in the winter of 2012 when all of this began, so we will probably have another party then too!!!  So overjoyed to see my daughter healing and healthy!!!

And that’s about all from around here!

Savings catching!!!

Ok, if you are a fruffy foofoo and refuse to shop at WalMart because they’re the demon seed of the United States, and they don’t pay a living wage, and they import from China blah blah blah blah, you can stop reading, because this is about that big ol horrible ugly corporation, and yeah, we pretty much *have* to shop there, because even though most of their stuff is crap, my family survives on the staples we need to get from somewhere anyway. Milk, bread, butter, flour, sugar, dollar a bag french fries. I don’t buy much prepackaged crapola, but the things I do get, help round out the meats I get from the other grocery store, and the vegies we get from the farm! And of course I get my clothes there. When winter is over I buy a crap ton of $1 and $2 shirts, and all the sweat pants/shirts and flannel anything that’ll fit us, and sometimes the 4x and 5x size clothes for a dollar or two also, just for the fabric content. And at the end of summer I buy up all the $1 and $2 shirts, and shorts I can find!  Yeah, I know all of those clothes were probably made in Taiwan, and some poor soul made a penny, or less, for making it, and WalMart sucks for making life for them like that, but I need to clothe my family the cheapest way possible, because times are tough all over.

So anyhooo, my *point* of this whole blah-de-blah… *if* you do shop at the Mart of Wal they have this new thing called Savings Catcher online. You sign up at walmart.com, and all you do is pop your receipt number and the date in there. You have seven days to do it. Within two days they scan all competitors prices, *and* all the other WalMarts in your area also for savings. So say you go in there and buy toothpaste, and milk, and butter, and a pair of shoes, and a toy, and some yarn, and wrapping paper, and some candy.  And then the toothpaste is on sale at Walgreens, and the butter is cheaper at the other WalMart ten miles away, and the shoes are on sale at the mall, and the toy is on sale at Target….. they go through aaaaaaaalll of that, and bammo you get the difference back! You have to choose from two forms of gift cards to get it back, and I’m waiting for another couple of receipts to go through so that my gift card will be more than ten bucks. But from what I’ve seen of these first two receipts, I think we’re going to get a good $20-$30, or more, bucks back a month doing this!  Yes, a family of seven spends around $500 a month at evil ol Wally World. Shoot me. It would be a LOT less if I had my druthers, and we’d spend a lot more at the produce stand, and make our own french fries and corn chips!  And hell, if the price of butter keeps going up, I’d invest in a cow, and make my own butter too! We use a LOT of butter for foods for Cassie to gain weight. Can you tell I ~know~ the price of it is skyrocketing?  😛 So if I can save a dollar every week we go shopping, because the other WalMart has it cheaper, that’s four or five dollars a month, just in butter!!!

So there you have it! If you shop there for anything, Do it! And yeah, I used to be all against the whole getting a keychain tag for every store, and “big brother” tracking everything.  But ya know what?  They do it through your credit cards, they do it through you banking, they do it with their cameras on every corner, they do it with your “smart” phones.  Everything is so inundated with tracking now it no longer matters. So yeah, I’ve got several teachers rewards tags, and a tag at PetCo for the cheapest cat litter (and then it always spits out a coupon on the receipt, since we have the tag, and I give that to the guy at the register and he uses it for his dog food!), and I have a tag at Joaf and Lug, and that saves us on gas money.  CO is land of the keychain tags!!!! And now I have big corporate Wally World tracking my receipts, and handing me money. The circle is complete!!! Let Freedumb Ring!!!!

So the other night I had a super cool, awesome dream, full of lots of ideas that I want to try. Ok so, this house came with a rather interesting detached garage.  Looks like the walls were built with 2×4 frame and then the rest of the walls are a mud brick like substance, and then the roof is just a regular old roof, but it’s very oooold. The outside of this garage was stuccoed to match the rest of the house. It’s nice, because when the sun shines on the stucco all day, and it keeps the house nice and warm most of the night! Pretty sure the garage having mud brick walls with stucco on the outside works the same way. We don’t park our car in it though, because we don’t trust the roof. That’s where my dream comes in.

So in my dream, I get to use a skill saw, and we were cutting the roof off the garage bit by bit and dropping it into the dumpster in like two foot sections. I don’t really understand how this was working out, because we were standing on the roof while we were cutting away at it. But it worked in my dream. Then, when the roof was gone we started lowering the walls, and taking the mud bricks out to the back yard to make raised beds out of them. It was ~~~gorgeous~~~!!!!  I had fruit trees on the bonus property along the side of the house, and then the whole back along the fence had sunflowers and berry bushes, and then all up to the porch was the raised beds built out of rocks and the mud bricks.

Then comes the amazing part (as if all that wasn’t amazing enough), once the mud walls were taken out to about waist high, we re-framed up the 2×4’s, and put a hoop house/green house over the top of it all, and my garage became a beautiful beautiful space for plants, and all our gardening needs throughout the Winter and Spring!!!!

I woke up incredibly happy about it all. It is just soooo doable with a little work, and year round effort!!! The people here are still all like, “you won’t never get nothin to grow here”, BUT the dude down the street got his tomatoes and squash to grow! The farmers on the other side of the river are growing corn, squash, peppers, tomatoes, and pumpkins for Halloween! I feel like proving them all wrong, and getting some apple and pear trees in the Spring, and then getting loads of berries, and getting those raised beds made! Gonna need a boat load of drip irrigation, and maybe even some timers so I’ve only gotta check up on things once or twice a day… but I can see this working! And it makes me smile every time we pull into our driveway and I see that old garage! 🙂

The Boonies!!!

What a morning it has been! So my order from the Woolery shipped yesterday.  And what does the post office do??? Reject my address, and ship my package to North Carolina!  Part of living here in the boonies is that the town is so small that everyone gets a PO Box. But businesses don’t like that. They like physical addresses, so we give them the physical address, but in the second address line we put our post office box. But that doesn’t account for nothing, and the post office rejects our address, and the next nearest thing they can find is our town name, but in NC. Presto change-o that’s where your package is going!!!! Just like that! /bangs head on desk

But the most wonderful people at the Woolery, even though they are out of the Spinzilla packs have found a way to pull my order together again, and they are going to do what most places have to do for us, and march down to the post office and say, “THIS is a real address! This package NEEDS to go there!!!” And amazingly once it gets ~into~ actual CO, for some reason they can find us! But magically everywhere else in the country thinks we are a big empty hole, like the Bermuda Triangle, or something. Wooooo weeeeeeee woooooo weeeeeee woooooo weeeeeeee! And yes, we get all of our bills, and other normal mail just fine here.  Just for some reason packages from companies are a thing. :-/ The UPS guy can find us. FedEx had it’s trouble back last year, but now with a phone call or two they can find us most times too! Google maps thinks we’re at another house about a half a block away, so you can’t even look us up on there, or you’ll be seeing someone else’s place. LOL

I guess it’s just all part of being in a small town. One of those, get to know your neighbor kinda places, because your package is gonna end up not at your place, because they don’t look at the number on the house, they just drop it where the map says to go. We don’t rely on technology out here, so much as we do friendly folks getting our things to the right place.  Scary for the rest of the world. Just a part of small town boonie living for us!

I am gearing up! I placed an awesome order with the Woolery! Couldn’t pass up the Spinzilla deal of two pounds of fiber for $39!!! (so I got two! LOL) I have never seen fiber that cheap, unless it’s like straight off the sheep, and not all nice and washed and carded!!! My plan is to spin as much of it up as I can the week of Spinzilla, and then I am going to wind the yarn into cakes, and get out the food coloring, and do this dying technique I saw on the Youtoobz where you plop the yarn cakes into the dye, and the outside picks up more of the color, and it gradually gets lighter towards the middle of the cake! Makes for super awesome shawl knitting with either the darkest part of the skein at the top of the shawl, and going lighter and lighter to the bottom… or the light part at the top, going darker and darker to the bottom!

This week is also Yarn Along the Rockies here in CO! I don’t think I’m going to try hitting 24 yarn shops this year though. I might hit two or three right around the Springs, and of course we’ve already hit Table Rock Llamas! I think they are my most favorite shop ever! Well, besides Spindles, Shuttles, and Skeins and Mew Mew’s!!! But those are much much further north.

So anyway, yesterday we needed to go up to the Springs for 15 yo dd’s medicine, so we zipped out to Table Rock Llamas first. I ended up with some lovely Merino yarn called Zara Plus the color # is 428 (it’s the multi colored green one).  I am weaving it up on my Hazel Rose looms and it is absolutely fabulous!!! I let dh know if we’re in that neck of the woods next week I wanna go in and clean them out of the last 15 or so skeins in all the different colors they had. I also got a few more bobbins for my Ashford Traveler wheel, getting ready for Spinzilla!!! I’ve been meaning to get some for a few years now, but just never thought of it at the time we were at any place fibery. Then I’d sit down to spin again, and I’d be like, “man, I need more bobbins!”

Other than that… just regular ol back to school stuff here. Starting to get up early in the morning again, so we can get our four hours of stuff done by lunch time. One kiddo in the last year of Elementary, and then everyone else in Middle and High School is rough!!! But we’re getting through it. I thought once I got my oldest through the high school years, I was all like, “yeah! I can DO THIS!!!” But with multiple kiddo’s working multiple levels… eeehhhhssss!  Six more short years, and I’ll be down to just one again though. That’ll be weird. 😛

Anyway, off to watch a few Youtubes before bed. I’ve been sucked into Dave Ramsey vids lately. We’ve done most of what he’s saying on our own, without even following any plan really. I guess it’s just the way I was brought up.  It’s just good to listen to those kick in the pants “be responsible, dammit!” kinda talks every once in a while. I’m astounded at people that make $150K a year, and they’re, “OMG we are in soooo much debt!!!”, and I’m like, holy crap!!! How??? But then, I’m not normal. :-/ 😀 It’s a crazy world out there, ain’t it?

Dr’s suck Part2

Yeah, you knew it wasn’t over with, right?  I mean, they’re dr’s. They’ve gotta make some bucks, right. :-/ So the Wednesday after my visit I get a phone call, “all of your tests came back negative.  You are fine, and all is well!”  Yaaaaayyyyyy!!! Then two days later I get another call! “Hey, we need you back in to see you! Right away!!! There was something on your tests”  Oh, you mean those tests that two days ago you said were ~fiiiiine~? Everything’s normal and good, you mean thooose tests.  “Umm humm”  So yesterday, I go back in for an “extra look” (read: an office visit is $240), “and we’re going to put this stuff on, and if there are any cancer cells it’ll turn them white, and we’ll be able to get ~just~ those cells, and send them in for testing” (read: lab tests are gonna cost you another couple hundred dollars), “and you might have to come back three times a year for pap smears” (read: three office visits a year times $240 a visit, plus lab work).   Imagine their saddness when ~NO freakin part turned white~!!!! Nothing! No cancer, no biopsy, no lab work. Boo hoo for you doc!  She turns to the assistant and says, get me a pap kit, and turns to me, we’ll run another pap smear for ya. WTF!!!! I just HAD one just over a week ago! It came back FINE!!!! FINE! I DON”T have bottomless pockets for you to find ways to spend my money lady!!! I have a basement to repair! I don’t have an oven to cook Thanksgiving dinner in! I DON’T need ~you~ to keep spending ~my~ money for ME!!!! Yeah, I doubt I’ll be going back there next year. Those dr’s are messed up in the head!  But yeah, I’m healthy, and fine, and as hard as they tried they couldn’t make me sick. Don’t cha love it! /endrant
